Why I built M.A.P.P.I.E.
The story behind this tool, and straight answers to the questions people ask before uploading their records.
Hey, I'm Alex. I've lived with multiple complex and rare genetic conditions for most of my life. Over the years I was bounced between dozens of specialists. And for decades, nobody could connect the dots for me. I was eventually diagnosed with aEDS, a connective tissue disorder. By then I'd already learned the hard way that your own medical history is usually the most disorganized, hardest-to-access dataset you own. Every new provider starts from zero. You're expected to recite years of history from memory, and you're damned if you don't get it right.
I looked at what already existed. Patient portals only show you what your provider already digitized, and can't read anything you bring them yourself. Full-service record aggregators are thorough but slow and hands-off, often weeks or months, with someone else's hands on your file the whole time. Dumping records into a general AI chatbot works until it hallucinates a drug dose or a diagnosis you never had.
So I built the tool I wish existed to help me before: drop in your records, however messy, scans, blurry photos, screenshots, wearable exports, etc., and get one plain-language summary back, without another portal, login, or company holding your health history hostage. That's M.A.P.P.I.E.
Your privacy, answered
Straight answers to the questions people ask before uploading their records.
What happens to my files?
Your files are read and turned into text right inside your browser, on your device. The original files never leave your browser and are never uploaded to us. To build your summary, only the extracted text is sent to our AI provider, and we do not store it.
Do you store my medical records?
No. We do not keep a database of your health information. There is nothing on our side that connects you to your records, because we do not keep the records. When you close the tab, your data is gone from your device too.
Is M.A.P.P.I.E. HIPAA compliant?
HIPAA is the law that governs doctors, hospitals, and insurers. It does not govern a personal tool that you use on your own records, so "HIPAA compliant" is not really the right question for M.A.P.P.I.E. Here is the better answer: we protect your data by design. Your files stay in your browser, we store no records, and your text is never used to train AI models.
Do you sell my data or show me ads?
Never. No ads, no advertising trackers, and we do not sell your information to anyone. So much of the internet runs on quietly harvesting your data to sell later. We built M.A.P.P.I.E. to be the opposite. You are the patient, not the product.
Who is the AI, and do they keep my text?
We use Anthropic's Claude to read your records and build the summary. Your text is not used to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is this medical advice?
No. M.A.P.P.I.E. helps you organize and understand your own history, but it is an informational tool, not a doctor. AI can make mistakes, so please review your summary and talk to a licensed provider about any medical decisions.
What does it cost?
Uploading records and viewing your full summary is free. Downloading a clean, watermark-free PDF is $4.99 right now, a limited-time launch price down from $14.99. If cost is a barrier, there is a $1.99 reduced price option right in the app, no proof required. We never want price to be the reason someone cannot organize their own care.
